Stylin' A New Look

As you can see, my blog is sportin' a whole new look. I'm so excited! Major, MAJOR thanks to my good friend Stefany at To Be Thode for the amazing job she's done...adding a third column, a signature, even a favicon! (It's a bare foot...how cute is that!)

I still think I might have a few more tweaks ahead (I know I need to add some info pages...maybe a button...perhaps a more curly-cursive font?) but I'd love to know what you think of it so far.

And please, take a minute to tell Stefany (on Twitter here, her blog here, or Facebook here) what a lovely person she is for doing this. She did this for free, just to help out a Twitter friend.

Possibilities

I got a major surprise in the mail from my dad today. A laptop.

I'm typing this on my very own laptop.

I've been hearing a strange sound since I took this little beauty out of its box and turned it on. Kind of a squeaky-creaky sound. Kind of like...a door. A door opening up to all sorts of possibilities.

It's a beautiful thing.

Breaking Out of Our Shells

Literally!

A few weeks ago, we decided to start incubating some eggs and propigating the flock. We started with twenty-five eggs, and after culling out any that weren't fertilized or stopped showing signs of progress a week or so ago, we were left with seventeen possible chicks.

Yesterday, some of the eggs started cracking. I shot this video around midnight, just before heading to bed.



My husband was the lucky dog that actually got to witness the first egg hatch around 3:30 this morning. We're being very cautious not to let any new babies get a chill. We kept the chick in the incubator for several hours, so its feather would dry out, before moving it to the temporary chick home. We've waited patiently for so long now, it would be heartbreaking to accidentally kill any now by exposing them to air when they're still wet.

Hubby may have been the first one to witness a hatching, but guess who the new chick is bonding with?

Wordless Wednesday - Money Saving Madness

Since my husband became unemployed in January, I've been stepping up my frugal shopping at places like CVS and Rite Aid. I'm pleased to say that my stockpile is growing considerably, and I'm even making some money at it!

But clipping all those coupons sure takes a lot of work. Lucky for me, I've got a little girl that actually enjoys helping Mommy with the coupons.



Obviously, our organization is...lacking. But at least she's having a good time.
